Bow Mod Question
Recently, I had this bow drop for me:
Zealous Aureate Longbow of Enchanting, Req 9, HSR 10% Incript, 15/-1 Zealous, 20% Enchant.
Are there Ranger builds that use this weapon? I haven't played the game much with my Ranger, lately.

You can always use it. But Recurve bows are the way to go for common Ranger things.
The mods are quite pathetic though.

I usually play a ranger, I never use an HSR bow mod, but I do use the enchantment one with a few builds, and zealous goes well with some others, ones that use volley/barrage especially.

I should make this clearer. I have plenty of Sundering/Fortitude mod combo's. I'm looking to try out different specialized builds. I was wondering if anyone actually uses a Zealous/Enchant Combo, or, perhaps, a Sundering/Enchant combo with a specialized build. I saw a preference for a Fiery/Enchant combo for a R/E build. I can easily change the mods and inscription to anything I want. Any suggestions?
Ralgha, I was typing when you were posting. Thanks for your response.

Sundering is bad on a Ranger.
Fortitude is the best second mod for a Bow.
Bow mods for a Ranger are best -- 33% Conditions. Vampiric.
If you need any other energy management on a Ranger, Prepshot should be enough. 15^50 always.

The inscription isn't useful, but Enchant +20% could be of use with builds using Conjures, Judge's Insight or Heart of Holy Flame. Combined with it's zealous string this would be an ok bow for a JI+Barrage for use against swarms of undead.

Thanks for the insight, so far. I already put a 15^50 on it. I think I will add a +30 Fort and sell it. Then I will get a recurve bow and try some of those builds using Conjures and JI.

20% Enchant isn't really useful on a bow. If you need to use an enchantment then carry a spear with +20% enchanting and hsr 10% and a focus with hsr 10% to swap to for casting it. Conjure lasts 60 seconds, 72 with the mod. During that time, the +20% enchanting mod does nothing. HoHF lasts 30 seconds, 36 with the mod. During that time, the +20% enchanting mod does NOTHING.
Zealous is... well, it was useful for Penetrating Attack => Quick Shot => Sundering Attack => Quick Shot spam, but now that just took a huge whack with the nerf bat and the combo can't be kept up anymore. Now, it's not really useful anymore. Barrage costs 2 energy @ 13 Expertise; you don't need a Zealous string for that, use Vamp for +5 damage per hit. And even if you did, I wouldn't carry a bow specifically for a build that would be useful in maybe <10 places in the whole game.
Get a 33% Poisonous, 33% Silencing, and 33% Crippling Recurve Bows, all 15^50 and +30hp. Also an Ebon would be nice for Ebon Dust Aura.
And get a 33% Crippling, 15^50 and +30hp Longbow; you can use that bow right now if you want.
Oh and don't mod items if you're going to sell it... (1) it pisses people off because you're charging more for something that you stuck on to it (2) you're limiting your buyer market because someone who doesn't want that mod or has it already won't pay for it

15^50, not always, but very common for general use, others are more build specific.
There are a number of Solo builds out there where 15% in a stance or 15% while enchanted are better options.
I have about 30 bows because different areas require different mods and I like to spec for optimal abilitites.
+30 hp grip is not always the best option, just the most common, and like 15^50 inscriptions, good for general use. Some people just don't bother to spec ahead of time for what they will be facing in the Area/Mission/Quest.
But hey, you have 4 weapon slots, fill those witha variety of bows and you can never really go wrong in PvE land.

Almost every mod has a potential place in this game. Some are considered 'better' because of the ease of use or percentage of places/times where that mod can be beneficial.

15% -10al is great for rangers since they are rarely in a spot they are taking lots of damage

15^50 is generally a free mod. You should never really be under 50% in PvE.
Same for +30hp. For certain professions, they ARE the best, because there are no situations where you need others.

Well sundering is still usable but Vampiric is often a better choice.

+30 is not the BEST. It's a good mod that's very versatile. Take a 20% undead or charr mod. They're perfect for killing a specific type of mob. Adapting to your situation FTW.

Thus the..."isn't overly excellent either." :P And really, we're talking about the difference of a couple of points of dps.

I think some folks don't understand that it's not a zealous bow. It's a plus 15% damage always with a permanent -1 energy regen always inscription. This is really really bad on a ranger (duh). HSR is also 'teh suckage' on a bow. Enchanting as noted is useful in some builds (for slower recharge spells like conjures I've always preferred to do a swap for +enchant though). The enchant mod is also alot of fun in a volley/Ebon dust aura called or precision shot build
